The following
are the key areas as Mayor that we will focus on: Continue to encourage quality commercial development to expand property and sales tax base. We need to diversify our tax base and by doing so our residents have the convenience of near-by amenities.
Continue efforts to develop our Marine District. As Mayor, I become a member of Seabrook Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and would continue to support SEDC’s projects to improve the Point and encourage waterfront development. The Endeavor High Rise Project, which includes a Westin Hotel, Class A office buildings, and retail shops needs to be supported and nurtured.
Continue to monitor and facilitate road construction projects in Seabrook. o Council needs to push for the start of Hwy 146 expansion. TxDot has no funding and we need to encourage our state and federal legislators to get this project started. o Repsdorph/Lakeside Drive expansion has been designed and recently funded. This project is led by the Harris County and will need to be monitored and pushed to keep it on track.
Create a comprehensive plan for our parks and trails. We need a long-range plan to better connect the city east/west with trails. This will facilitate government grants. With the acquisition of the Pine Gully property, the two acres on Todville, and 40 acres from the PHA, we need to develop a parks utilization plan.
Provide for high quality city services including a strong public safety emphasis on police, fire and emergency services so they continue to meet the needs of the community.
Ensure that Seabrook stays fiscally sound. I have been fiscally conservative and will continue to work hard to maintain our tax rate. We need to supplement the city budget with outside funding and grants for some of our needs. We need to plan for the impact on the city of the Hwy 146 Expansion project.
Develop long-range capital plans for our city infrastructure. This ensures we maintain our water and sewers and roads to the quality we have come to expect.
Ensure the city appearance is maintained by enforcement of our ordinances. This includes enforcement of the sign ordinances, high grass, and abandoned swimming pools.
Be a visible and accessible Mayor. It is important that Seabrook is represented at all area events. As I have on City Council, I will continue to attend Seabrook and Bay Area events to ensure a positive image for Seabrook. |
